My cat, Cala, was a chatty Cathy from the day I adopted her. She loved to give her opinion and soon became a Viral Singing Sensation loved by many.
I initially adopt Cala believing she was young. That is what I was told by the shelter and the vet who first examined her. However, when she fell sick and was taken to the ER, it was discovered that she actually was a senior cat. Finding this out didn’t make me lose hope. I stayed optimistic, expecting Cala to recover fully. However, my beloved cat’s condition didn’t improve. She passed away in my arms, surrounded by family. I was heartbroken to be losing her so soon.
In February of 2024, I shared a video of my Cala singing her hit song “I Go Meow” and the internet went wild. This video received nearly 3 million views and it seemed that Cala was on her way to fame without even trying. From my video, many others were born with the sound of Cala singing this song.
Since sharing my first video of Cala, I shared many others of my sweet orange cat singing, talking, playing, and simply looking adorable.
One video that grabbed the attention of more than 20 million viewers is of Cala standing in a box on the bed while singing her song.
"I Go Meow" seemed to be Cala's favorite song to sing! Her meowing sounded very similar to the words: “I go meow; I go meow; I go meow; Go meow; I don’t know; Who I am; Look away; Away.” Sometimes she changed it up a bit adding different lyrics, but the sound remained the same and everyone loved it!
She was even loved by other cats. One fan shared, "My orange cat tried to respond to your orange cat. It was the most orange cat thing I've seen today."
Cala always had something to say and her fans were living for it. In one video that went viral with more than 37 million views and was pinned to the top of Toth's TikTok page, Cala carries on a conversation while playing with her ball.
One viewer wrote in the comments, "This is the most talkative cat I’ve ever seen," and many others agreed.
Several musicians, including The Kiffness, collaborated with the feline to create renditions of the now-viral “I Go Meow” song. Following the news of her passing, The Kiffness also took to Instagram to post a tribute to Cala, changing the original song’s lyrics.
“A bright light has gone out, but Cala’s sweet little voice will go meow for eternity!
Cala's human, Elizabeth, adopted Cala thinking she was very young. I too believed she was just a kitten. But after Cala became sick, her age became apparent with the problems the vets discovered, and after doing some tests they suspected she was around 12. Although they were optimistic & Cala fought hard her condition was not improving & she ultimately passed away in Elizabeth's arms due to old age.
Please join me in thanking Elizabeth for adopting Cala - for taking her off the streets, giving her a home & for sharing Cala's unique antics with the world. She brightened all of our lives, and she will continue to do so even though she is no longer with us.
Elizabeth had this to say “You all have allowed Cala to live on forever. To never be forgotten for how special she is. Thank you for loving Cala as much as I have!” RIP CALA (2012ish - 2024) @cala_and_elizabeth”
My Cala ultimately passed away in my arms due to old age at the end of May. She was surrounded by humans who love her. Thank you all for loving Cala as much as I do. You all will allow her to live on forever, to never be forgotten for how special she is.
The video announcing my Cala's passing quickly went viral with nearly 9 million views and 68,000 comments in just a few hours. Her fans were heartbroken and shared their sadness and condolences in the comment section.
"And just like that, in a split second, the world went quiet," one follower wrote. Another said, "This cat brought me so much happiness hearing her sing when I was down. I am lost for words. I am so sorry for your loss."
Another fan wrote, "My deepest condolences. Cala has made countless people smile and cheer up just by simply being her awesome self."
I posted in response to Cala and all her Loving Fans: A radiant presence has left us, but Cala's gentle meows will echo for eternity." She will always be alive in my heart as well.
